Fun and festive as they may seem, a 12-oz store-bought slushie drink contains nearly 7 teaspoons of added sugar – plus a plethora of other artificial colors and flavors.

I can’t take the credit for this idea, but ever since I saw it in the most recent issue of Food Network Magazine, it’s been my favorite way to beat the summer heat.

To make, simply pour your favorite 100% fruit juice into an ice cream machine and run for 10 to 12 minutes. THAT’S IT!
