Are you seeing more and more about collagen out there in the nutrition and beauty universe, but still not sure what it’s all about? This sponsored post will explore the facts about collagen, highlight some simple ways you can get more collagen in your daily routine and make a craveable recipe featuring Naked Collagen Peptides.
What is Collagen?
Collagen is a made up of a specific combination of aminos acids, the building blocks of proteins. Amino acids create structural components throughout the body including the skin, nails, bones, cartilage and various other connective tissues. Collagen also helps with cell regeneration and organ protection.
With age, our internal collagen production can decline. Less collagen and weakened collagen can lead to lessened skin integrity, brittle hair and nails, poor wound healing and compromised muscle and joint health. Taking in additional collagen from food and supplements is believed to help support the body’s ability to maintain and further fortify these structural components that are so important to our health.
In addition to the potential beauty benefits, collagen is commonly used by sports medicine pros to help collagen reformation during rehab sessions. Research suggests that taking a collagen supplement prior to these exercise sessions may help enhance collagen synthesis.
You can get collagen from both foods and dietary supplements, and they are found in and derived from animal and marine sources. There are nearly 30 types of collagen, but the three most common types (types I, II and III) are most plentiful in foods and commonly used in supplements. Bovine or beef collagen and marine collagen from fish is plentiful in “type I” collagen, which is best for skin, nails and hair, while chicken yields more “type II” collagen for bone and joint health. Type III collagen is found mostly in organs and bones.
Collagen In Food
Getting a hefty dose of collagen from foods can be a bit tricky but there is collagen to be found in chicken or beef bone broth, chicken skin, gelatin, fish with bones like sardines and small amounts in eggs.
Collagen Supplements
The number of collagen supplements on the market has continued to grow, but that doesn’t mean they’re all good quality. First and foremost, choose a collagen supplement from a trusted brand. Look for a product with a simple ingredient list, has a reasonable size scoop and dissolves easily – nobody likes collagen clumps!
Naked Collagen Peptides checks all the boxes! This product is made from nothing but bovine, grass fed bovine hide collagen peptides (peptides just means they are shorter chains of aminos acids, designed to be easier to absorb). The 9.5g scoop is a very manageable amount of powder that dissolves way better than many other brands I have tried. Add this flavorless powder to your favorite recipes to help get in your daily collagen boost.
