Fun and festive as they may seem, a 12-oz store-bought slushie drink contains nearly 7 teaspoons of added sugar – plus a plethora of other artificial colors and flavors.
I can’t take the credit for this idea, but ever since I saw it in the most recent issue of Food Network Magazine, it’s been my favorite way to beat the summer heat.
To make, simply pour your favorite 100% fruit juice into an ice cream machine and run for 10 to 12 minutes. THAT’S IT!
The experimentation continues! Some of my favorites so far have been:
- Honest Mango Lemonade (pictured above)
- Organic 100% Apple Juice
- Pureed watermelon and fresh lime juice
- Unsweetened iced tea with Fresh Mint Syrup
- Coconut water and pineapple juice
